I used to live in Scotland up to last year, and a funny thing there is, wherever you go, you find broken slates. Either in the ruins of old houses in the Highlands, in your own cellar, or on the streets after windstorms. So instead of letting them go to waste, I thought I could do something with them. And of course in Scotland seabirds are all over the place, we used to go every early summer to the Isle of May, great place for bird watching. So this is the result, with probably many more to come, as I have accumulated a large supply of these, and they have proven very popular with my family and friends. These little pieces are very quick to paint and a great exercise in painting using only light areas and going for a more realistic approach than I usually do.
